FileLocker Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy for FileLocker by Omkar Shelar

Effective date: September 3, 2026

1. Introduction

FileLocker ("FileLocker", "the App", "we", "us", or "our") is developed by Omkar Shelar.

FileLocker is designed to help users protect and organize personal files using an encrypted, app-private vault on their Android device.

Privacy by design: FileLocker is designed so that your vault files and their contents are processed and stored locally on your device. FileLocker does not operate a server that receives or stores your vault files.

2. Information We Collect

FileLocker does not collect personal information such as your name, phone number, email address, contacts, location, or device identifiers for developer-operated services.

FileLocker does not include advertising, advertising tracking, analytics, or crash-reporting services in the current version.

FileLocker does not require you to create an account or sign in to use the vault.

3. Files and User Content

When you choose files to import, FileLocker processes those files on your device and stores encrypted copies in its app-private vault storage.

FileLocker can work with documents, photos, videos, and other files selected through Android's file selection system.

Your file contents are not uploaded to a FileLocker server and are not transmitted by FileLocker to us.

FileLocker may process file metadata required for vault organization and operation, such as file name, MIME type, file size, timestamps, checksum information, and folder association.

4. Camera

FileLocker can optionally use your device camera when you choose to capture a photo from within the App.

Camera access is used only after you initiate the camera feature and grant the Android camera permission.

Photos captured using FileLocker are processed locally on your device. Temporary camera files are used during the capture and import process and are deleted when they are no longer needed.

Camera images are not uploaded to FileLocker servers or transmitted to the developer.

5. PIN and Biometric Authentication

FileLocker allows you to protect access to the vault using a PIN.

The PIN is processed locally. FileLocker does not store or transmit the PIN in plaintext.

If you enable biometric authentication, FileLocker uses the Android biometric authentication system. Biometric data and biometric templates remain under the control of the Android operating system and are not accessible to FileLocker.

6. Encryption and Security

FileLocker uses Android security facilities and authenticated encryption to protect vault content stored by the App.

Encryption keys are protected using the Android Keystore system. Vault files are encrypted locally before being stored in the App's private storage area.

FileLocker also uses local cryptographic processing for authentication, file integrity verification, previews, and backup protection.

While reasonable technical measures are used to protect your data, no software or storage system can guarantee absolute security.

7. File Previews and Temporary Data

When you preview a protected file, FileLocker may temporarily create decrypted preview or thumbnail data in app-private cache storage so the content can be displayed.

Temporary preview and camera data are deleted when they are no longer required, including during relevant lock, exit, or cleanup operations.

8. Backup and Restore

FileLocker supports portable backup and restore operations.

Backups are created as local files using Android's file selection/storage system. You choose where a backup is saved.

Portable backups are protected using password-based encryption. FileLocker does not upload these backups to a FileLocker server.

Backup passwords are used temporarily during the backup or restore operation and are not stored by FileLocker as persistent passwords.

9. Original Files

When importing a file, the original file outside FileLocker is normally left under the control of the Android storage location from which it was selected.

Depending on your selected import preference and the capabilities of the Android storage provider, FileLocker may offer to move the original file to Android Trash after the encrypted vault copy has been successfully created and verified.

FileLocker does not use this feature to upload or share the original file.

10. Data Stored on Your Device

FileLocker stores information locally on your device that is necessary to operate the vault, including:

This information is stored in app-private storage and is not provided by FileLocker to the developer.

11. Network Communication

The current version of FileLocker does not require an internet connection for its core vault, encryption, file import, camera, preview, or local backup functionality.

FileLocker does not operate a cloud storage service for your vault files.

12. Google Play Billing

FileLocker may offer a Premium feature through Google Play's in-app purchasing system.

Purchases are processed by Google Play. FileLocker receives the information necessary to determine the applicable purchase entitlement.

Payment card, payment account, and other payment information is handled by Google Play and is not collected or stored by FileLocker.

For information about Google's handling of payment and account information, please refer to Google's applicable privacy documentation.

13. Third-Party Services and Libraries

FileLocker uses Android and third-party software libraries required to provide application functionality, including AndroidX components, Material components, CameraX, cryptographic libraries, and Google Play Billing.

These libraries are used to provide application functionality. FileLocker does not use advertising or analytics SDKs in the current version.

14. Data Sharing

FileLocker does not sell your personal information.

FileLocker does not share your vault files or their contents with the developer or with third parties through a FileLocker-operated server.

Google Play processes information necessary to provide Google Play services, including in-app purchase processing, under Google's own terms and privacy practices.

15. Data Retention

Data stored by FileLocker remains on your device until you delete it, remove the application, or it is otherwise removed through normal Android storage management.

Temporary files such as camera captures and preview data are removed when they are no longer needed by the App.

16. Data Deletion

You can delete files and folders from the FileLocker vault using the App's deletion functionality.

Uninstalling FileLocker removes the App's app-private storage, including its encrypted vault data and local application preferences, subject to Android's storage behavior and any files you separately exported or saved outside the App.

Portable backup files saved outside the App are not automatically deleted when FileLocker is uninstalled. You remain responsible for managing those files.

17. Children's Privacy

FileLocker is not designed to collect personal information from children.

FileLocker does not knowingly collect personal information from children through developer-operated servers or accounts.

18. Your Responsibilities

You are responsible for maintaining access to your device, remembering your FileLocker authentication credentials, and maintaining any portable backup files you create.

You should keep your Android device and FileLocker installation updated and maintain backups of important data where appropriate.

19. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when FileLocker changes or when necessary to reflect legal, technical, or operational changes.

The updated policy will be published on this page with a revised effective date.
